About Metatrans
Who we are
Metatrans Business Services is a South African compliance advisory and technology company, established in 2014. We work with organisations across the private and public sectors to build compliance programmes that are defensible, audit-ready, and sustainable over time.
We serve clients across South Africa, the United Kingdom, the European Union and the United States, covering five regulatory frameworks: the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), and the ISO/IEC 27001 information security management standard.
What we do
We provide structured advisory services from initial gap assessment through to governance design, policy and documentation, implementation, training, and audit or certification readiness. We also develop and maintain MetaCore, a purpose-built compliance management platform that gives organisations a single, traceable system for managing their compliance obligations.
Our work is practical. We do not produce reports that sit on shelves. We help organisations understand what is required, build what is needed, and demonstrate it when it matters.
Our approach
Compliance is not a one-time exercise. Regulations change, organisations grow, and risks evolve. We build programmes designed to be maintained, not just passed.
We work flexibly — as the primary delivery partner for organisations without internal compliance capability, as specialist support alongside existing teams, and as an embedded resource for larger programmes. We adapt to the organisation, not the other way around.
Who we work with
We work with South African organisations subject to POPIA and PAIA obligations; UK organisations operating under UK GDPR; EU-based and internationally operating organisations subject to GDPR; and organisations globally seeking ISO/IEC 27001 certification or pursuing information security governance improvements.
We have worked extensively within the financial services, fintech, technology and telematics sectors.
The team
The Metatrans team brings hands-on experience from senior compliance and governance roles inside large South African and international corporates — implementing the same frameworks we now advise on, from the inside. That background shapes how we work: we understand what it takes to get a compliance programme through a real organisation, not just what the standard requires on paper.
We are a small, deliberate practice. Where engagements require specialist skills beyond our core — cyber security testing, external auditing, legal opinion — we work with a network of trusted partner firms rather than maintaining broad in-house headcount. This keeps our delivery focused and avoids the overhead of a large consultancy being passed on to clients.
We work alongside your internal legal, compliance and IT teams, not around them. Our aim is to build your organisation’s capability, not to create dependency on ours.
